Final Fantasy heading to Wii Virtual Console

Final Fantasy is headed to the Wii! The classic 1987 NES RPG which started the blockbuster game series is set to land on Virtual Console this week. Could this be the beginning of a bigger classic Square RPG comeback on the Wii?

Nintendo and Square Enix have announced that Final Fantasy will be landing on the Virtual Console, the retro game download service for the Wii, this week. The turn based role playing game is one of the most critically acclaimed Nintendo Entertainment System games ever, and sees you take on the role of the four Light Warriors, exploring a world map which was vast for the time in taking on the demon Garland.

While Final Fantasy I has been re-released before on the PlayStation, PSP, Game Boy Advance and most recently for iPhone, the return to Nintendo’s current home console is more than welcome, and we’re hopeful it could be the start of something bigger. Square Enix has been re-releasing PlayStation Final Fantasy titles on the PlayStation Network for PS3 and PSP, but the first six titles in the series were NES and SNES games. We’d love to see them all arrive on the Wii Virtual Console, especially the gripping Final Fantasy 6.
Final Fantasy lands on the Wii Virtual Console tomorrow, priced at 600 Wii Points.
